In my late father’s life time, he saw massive changes –computers, the internet, mobile phones and fax machines. In my lifetime, I will see many more changes, in a much shorter period of time.
I could not have envisaged that in 2013, that I would have had my first website, annefield.net.au established. In June 2014, my second website, annefieldauthor.com was set up.
The two websites, by mid –September 2015, have been read in 120 countries around the world, and my You Tube, Anne’s Adventure, has been viewed, as at [i]September 23 2015 , by 2,330 people.
I first dealt with journalists, in late 1985, when I was appointed as a Director to the St George Hospital Board, Kogarah, Sydney. In my Local Government role, as a Councillor from 1991-2008, I had frequent contact with the press. At various times, I have also dealt with journalists from the Sydney Morning Herald, and The Daily Telegraph. I continue to deal with the local press.
Today’s journalists need to still have the investigative and story-telling skills, but they need to be flexible in their approach to their stories. We now seek many more skills in our journalists –they write copy, they use social media, and they shoot images for example.
At the end of the day, journalists still need to be able to report and tell an interesting story that is fair and accurate to all parties. They need to have reliable sources.
