Marietta’s Death – February 20 2014

Marietta –my  Cavalier  King Charles Spaniel

Born January 1st 2001 – died February 20 2014

Marietta , a tri coloured Cavalier , came into my life in late 2008 from Prue, her former owner who lived  in Bowral .  Prue was moving into Bowral  from a property and could not take her to her new home. She was rehomed to me.

Marietta has been a beautiful , loving even -tempered and loyal Cavalier . She was a gentle lady, who was loved by all who knew her.

She got on well with my scallywag, Willliam (Willie when he was naughty ) and toffy –nosed Raine. William died unexpectedly of a tumour around the heart on August 10 2012 and Raine died of old age on March 31 2013. Harry , HRH as I call him , came to join Marietta in October 2013. Harry and Marietta were a loving duo, sometimes cuddling up to each up in one of the dog beds.

Marietta has had a heart problem for a long time and took medication for this . She was happy despite her medical problem . I last walked Marietta and Harry on February 13 2014 and on the way back from our walk  I called to talk to one of my neighbours. Harry affectionately cleaned Marietta’s face and kissed her, whilst I was talking to my neighbour. Very loving gestures.

Harold loved Marietta ; he loved all my other Cavaliers . They were typically called to attention by Harold’s  Yorkshire accent – usually at a loud volume.

Marietta and Harry were driven to Rhonda’s  house  by Karen ( Harold’s daughter ) and Rob on Saturday, February 15 2014 for a week’s holiday . I had to attend my uncle’s funeral in Perth , Western Australia.  I said my goodbyes to Marietta and Harry, hoping and praying that Marietta would be alive when I returned .  In recent months , Marietta had been losing weight ; she slept a lot, and at night time she slept on her rugs under the kitchen table. She was failing fast.

On Thursday ,February 21 2014 I was in a Freemantle ( Western Australia) café when i received the phone call from Rhonda in Wollongong.   Marietta had died of heart failure n Rhonda’s arms. I burst into tears in the Freemantle café when I heard the news . Rhonda was very upset, as she has known and cared for Marietta over many years.

I am devastated at the loss of my little girl with her beautiful nature .She was Mum to a number of litters of puppies, and they all have her wonderful temperament.

I have fond memories of Marietta. Walking with Marietta and Harry was a delight . Harry usually took the lead, but sometimes they walked side by side . They were always admired by passers by as we walked. The elderly, and the young children in the neighbourhood ,  loved to pat both Harry and Marietta.

Daniel , Stephen and Michael , my neighbour’s young children, loved walking with Miss Anne and Harry and Marietta.

Marietta now  joins  Pepper, Angus McTavish , William and Raine, who have  passed on .

Rest in peace  my beautiful girl – your loving Mum
