DAPTO LEAGUES CLUB, DAPTO
I am delighted to be able to speak to you tonight . This year a memorial award in memory of the late Harold Ward will be set up for the under 21 team .
Harold passed away on September 30 2011 aged 71 years of age . He had had a life time of committment to the round ball game . Harold played – he was a goalkeeper, coached ,was a strapper and also a referee. It is fitting that an encouragement award be established for a young player so that something can be put back into the game. He was a lifetime supporter of Leeds United.
Harold started playing at a young age in Yorkshire , England. He played for Fryston Colliery in the Yorkshire League, and by all accounts was an excellent goalkeeper . He was described by a fellow team member as the Bruce Grobbelar ( Liverpool goal keeper ) of his time ! A history of his champion winning 1963 team is currently being written, and will be launched next year on the date the team won a major trophy in Yorkshire.
