UPDATE :
I have now completed typing Rockdale City Council ‘s Council Minutes and Committee Minutes from the 1950’s until 1958, with references to Moorefield Racecourse , Kogarah . This covers the period of the lead up to the decision to sell the racecourse, its sale, and its subsequent rezoning. This decision resulted in educational facilities being built along with a residential area, the Moorefield Estate.
A mammoth job- almost 70 pages and well over 31,000 words …… I need to rewrite my draft chapter on the Sale of the Racecourse. These Council Minutes will prove to be invaluable in this task.
I now plan to transcribe an interview I conducted with an old horse trainer, Jack McCurley, then move to check a few race dates on Trove. My enormous task then begins after these tasks are completed. I must then review the draft of my ten chapters.
In late July 2014, in Coffs Harbour, I met with the grandson of Bob Mead, a leading Moorefield horse trainer. He has provided me with access to some wonderful old photos, which had belonged to Bob Mead.
